During the World War 1, Turkey was on the side with Germany, Australia and New Zealand were on the sides of British and France.  To win over the War it was important to take down Turkey. So Australia and New Zealand decided to team up and take down Turkey and capture Constantinople. To make this happen, Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed at a beach at Gallipoli on 25th April.  The soldiers who fought at Gallipoli were called Anzac’s and the beach they landed was named as Anzac Cove. The fight lasted for 8 months facing heavy casualties.
